Sewin' it up.

I finally got to turn on my sewing machine, and get to work on some of the piles of possible projects accumulating in my sewing space.

I started some new placemats for myself using some linen and some Summerville prints.

I finished Melissa's quilt! I have to show it to her before I show it here, though!

I took this pile of batting scraps...
and this pile of green fabric strips...
and made these padded strips,
then connected them to each other...
and I made a bag
with a pocket on the outside

and a pocket on the inside.

And with leftover pieces, I made a little fabric bin.

Many thanks to Debbie of Stitchin' Therapy for the brilliant way to use up those batting scraps. Her blog is full of inspiration!

Daisy Pillow

For Father's Day, which was also our anniversary, I asked Ralph and John to go see a movie, go see two movies, in fact, and to leave me home, alone. They did, and I enjoyed some peace and quiet, and worked on this pillow. To find out more about it, click on the Flickr link on the right sidebar...
Ralph and John returned, having enjoyed their movies, and Joseph surprised us with his arrival, and we shared a yummy barbecue dinner together.
Ahhh, we're through the Ralph's birthday-Mother's Day- Ralph's graduation-my birthday-Father's Day-anniversary season of celebrations. It always overwhelms me!

This is my first project for 2010! I've wanted to try quilting since I was a teenager, but I knew it would take over my life. I was too busy with school, and then with socializing, then marriage and kids and church and going back to school... you know how it goes! Now that I've started, my prediction has come true. My dining room table and shelves upstairs are covered with fabrics and supplies, and a work table has appeared in the family room for my sewing machine. I spend more time on quilting blogs and in fabric stores than on housekeeping and cooking, alas for my family! But the creative juices are flowing, and they're lubricating some joyful, forgotten parts of my soul.
